Former President Trump said during a Thursday interview that “deranged” special counsel Jack Smith should be “thrown out of the country.”
“We should throw Jack Smith out with them, the mentally deranged people,” Trump said during his appearance on WABC 770 AM’s “Cats & Cosby Show” with hosts John Catsimatidis and Rita Cosby.
“Jack Smith should be considered mentally deranged and he should be thrown out of the country,” the Republican nominee added while talking about immigration, one of the most important topics for voters in the 2024 presidential election.
This is the second time Trump went after Smith on Thursday. Earlier in the day, Trump slammed Smith, who was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2022 to oversee investigations into the former president, calling him a “crooked person” and vowing to fire the special counsel in “two seconds” if he triumphs in November.
“It’s so easy. I would fire him within two seconds,” Trump said.
Since his appointment in November 2022, Smith has brought charges against Trump over his handling of classified documents after leaving the White House and his efforts to subvert the 2020 election.
Judge Aileen Cannon tossed out the classified documents case earlier this year, handing a victory to Trump’s attorney who argued that Smith wasn’t lawfully appointed.
Trump’s lawyers asked U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Thursday for the election subversion case to be thrown out, arguing Smith was unconstitutionally appointed. Trump has pleaded not guilty in the case.
“The proposed motion establishes that this unjust case was dead on arrival — unconstitutional even before its inception,” Trump’s legal team said.
