Lightscape, Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s after-dark illuminated trail, returns this winter from November 22, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Now in its fourth year, Lightscape has become a contemporary holiday classic for New York City, offering a magical seasonal experience for visitors of all ages.
This year’s reimagined trail features new light installations alongside returning favorites, created by artists from 10 countries. Highlights include the debut of “Lantern Garden” by Brian Thunder and Mandylights, with over 160 illuminated lanterns covering the lawn of the Osborne in an otherworldly installation. The iconic “Winter Cathedral” by Mandylights is back this year, welcoming visitors to walk through an immersive tunnel of thousands of warm lights. Also on view is the expansive “Winter Reflections” by ITHICA, a breathtaking moving light and music show that covers the entirety of Cherry Esplanade.
Visitors will stroll past giant, fantastical sculptures like “Singularity” by Squidsoup, a 26-foot-high sphere made of over 6,000 individual points of light, and new ethereal pieces such as “Butterfly Effect” by Masamichi Shimada & Light Art Collection on Lily Pool Terrace, along with the reprogrammed illuminated fountain show at the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden, a transfixing installation that has been reimagined for 2024.
Special events include 21+ Nights on December 12 and 19, where adults can enjoy mulled wine and hot cocktails, as well as Sensory-Friendly Early Entry on December 18 and January 3, providing a more relaxed experience for those with sensory sensitivities.
Ticket options include Value Nights at $24 for adults, Peak Entry for $45, and Off-Peak Entry for discounted admission. For families, a special Lightscape Family Benefit event will be held on December 10, with proceeds supporting BBG’s youth education programs.
