It’s no secret that inflation right now is insane, particularly when it comes to groceries and, you know, trying to live your life. But Jamie over on TikTok shared a hilarious parody of how inflation has also hit the dance mom community, and you’ll be laughing and crying at how accurate her portrayal really is.
The video begins with Jamie acting as the dance teacher dramatically saying, “It is with great excitement and jazz hands that we would like to invite you to this year’s dance recital…Dancetopia!!!”
Mom responds that she’s thrilled and their family looks forward to this event every year, to which the dance teacher responds that ticket prices will range from $30 to $30. That is not a typo.
“Yes we know,” dance teacher says, “But to put on a production of this magnitude at the community college that has been closed for the past five years—we need these funds.”
Mom asks what happens if her kids are in multiple shows, and asks for a discount, and the dance teacher asks her if she’s famous dancer and choreographer Martha Graham, Bob Fosse, another choreographer, or actress and dancer Rita Moreno. Mom tells her that her last name is Aderski, and the dance teacher promptly responds, “Well then, no.”
“Please not there will also be no photography,” the dance teacher continues and says there will be no filming of any kind—except for the professional photographers and videographers they’ve hired to capture the performances. When mom asks for a copy, the dance teacher said, “It’s your child in their dance that you paid for all year long for them to learn, that will be $40.”
Then the mom was asked if she wanted to leave a note in the program stating her child’s name and what a beautiful dancer they’ve blossomed into and how proud of them she is. “Absolutely!” mom responds. “That will be $25 American dollars,” the teacher said. “For two lines in the program. Thank you.”
And of course there’s no discount for two kids.
“NO!” the dance teacher screamed. “How dare you ask?”
“This is theater! This is art! This is not about the money!”
Mom can also forget about the two t-shirts she was offered because they were “sold out last month when the tickets went on sale.”
“You will get none!” the dance teacher told her.
Mom ends the video saying, “Maybe I will try soccer next year.” But unfortunately, as I know from experience, soccer is not that much cheaper than the dance recital inflation.
