Rite Aid to close 13 additional locations in 5 states, court docs say

(WJW) – Rite Aid has announced plans to close 13 additional stores after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

The latest round of closures adds to the roughly 250 stores the company has closed since October 2023.

The Philadelphia-based company has been reporting annual losses for several years and, like its rivals, faces financial risk from lawsuits over opioid prescriptions. Rite Aid already has reached several settlements, including one announced last year with the state of West Virginia for up to $30 million.

After filing for bankruptcy protection in mid-October, the chain announced the closures of more than 150 stores across the U.S. In late November, Rite Aid announced the closures of another 31 stores. More were closed in early 2024, and the company announced plans earlier in April to shutter an additional 53 locations.

  • 1140 Town Square Road, Pottstown
  • 327 North Chester Pike, Glenolden

Virginia

  • 1624 Laskin Road, Suite 750, Virginia Beach

An exact date or time frame for the closures was not provided.
