Former President Trump said he “thinks” he will sue CBS over their “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Harris that he argues was deceptively edited.
Trump and his allies have criticized the outlet for airing an abridged version of her conversation with journalist Bill Whitaker, which they say was edited to make her look good. Voters polled were divided on whether the interview was edited to help Harris.
“So I think I’m going to sue them actually. I think so. No, you know what, they can’t defend it and if they do and even if they win it’s going to be very embarrassing,” Trump told podcast host Dan Bongino Friday.
CBS cut portions of Harris’s answer to a question about the war in Gaza in its initial broadcast, but later provided a full transcript of her remarks online.
“It’s a very embarrassing moment for them, but the media is not pressing it,” Trump said to Bongino, a Trump supporter and former Fox News commentator. “It’s so bad they should lose their license and take ’60 Minutes’ off the air.”
The former president on Thursday took to social media to demand the release of the united tapes of the interview.
“In normal times, what happened on 60 Minutes, (deceptively “doctoring” her answers), would be THE END OF ANYONE’S CAMPAIGN! Kamala is slow, incoherent, and is in no way qualified to be President of the United States. RELEASE THE TAPES FOR THE GOOD OF AMERICA. We can do it the nice way, or the hard way!” Trump wrote on TruthSocial.
Earlier this month, Trump pulled out of the “60 Minutes” interview after previously agreeing to the pre-election special, CBS said.
Harris has been ramping up her own attacks on Trump’s physical and mental fitness, saying that her opponent appears exhausted on the campaign trail. After the vice president released her medical report over the weekend, she called on Trump to do the same.
Instead, his campaign team referenced two letters released by physicians who treated the former president.
Trump continues to trail Harris by 2.2 percentage points nationally according to The Hill’s internal polling site, Decision Desk HQ. However, he has seen a recent uptick in key swing states, taking back some of Harris’s momentum.
