A teenage female was behind the Monday shooting at a Wisconsin Christian school, according to law enforcement.

Law enforcement said a 17-year-old female student was responsible for the shooting that authorities said killed a teacher and another student and wounded others at Abundant Life Christian School, according to Monday reports from The Associated Press and CNN, citing an unnamed source who was not authorized to speak publicly.

On Monday morning, officers responded to an active shooter call at the school, with a number of officers giving lifesaving aid to those who were wounded inside. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said at a press briefing that there was nothing indicating a history of violence or concern at the school and called it a “sad, sad day.”

Barnes also said that the suspected shooter, a juvenile, was dead and that officers didn’t fire their weapons when entering the school.

“What we know is that a total of about seven persons were transported from the scene to area hospitals for treatment,” Barnes said. “We know that at least three people have lost their lives, including the juvenile person.”

Barnes said he didn’t know the reasoning behind the shooting and that an investigation was moving forward. A student and a teacher were the two others killed in the shooting, and six students with injuries went to hospitals.

“These are just the physical injuries that we know about,” Barnes said.

The Hill has reached out to the Madison Police Department for comment.

The Associated Press contributed reporting.
